The Disappearing Male

This is a really good documentary about the effects of synthetic chemicals on the world's population of males and human and animal reproduction.

Homemade Toothpaste

For a healthy, natural, toothpaste that leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean:
Mix equal parts baking soda and coconut oil until the baking soda is pretty much dissolved, add a drop or two of tea tree oil and a couple drops of peppermint oil (for flavor, you could use cinnamon or vanilla if you prefer). No added chemicals that you can't pronounce, and it doesn't cost $5/oz.
I buy a gallon of coconut oil at a time from Mountain Rose Herbs, it's the cheapest I've found it. Coconut oil is an extremely healthy fat that really taste great on food, I use it on baked potatoes. It's also wonderful for skin and hair.

Remember what I said about the HFCS/mercury scare?

Here is the article for those of you who haven't read it, and this below is the part I want to point out now.

"2. Not long ago there were huge recalls of toys containing lead paint and people were scared. The government took advantage of that fear and passed a law that will put small scale toy manufactures and second hand children's items shops out of business leaving us free ONLY to buy from the large toy manufactures that sold us the toys containing lead in the first place. So if everyone gets scared because there is mercury in our food what freedom will the government take from us? Will they require that all food sold in the US must undergo expensive testing? That would put farmer's markets, roadside stands, and most local food sellers out of business. It would also drive up food prices all around, especially for produce that couldn't be tested in batches like processed foods, and people would be forced to buy the processed packaged foods that contain the HFCS that is the source of the mercury."

Sometimes I really hate it that I'm always right.

My mom sent me a link to this blog. Please read it and read the bill for yourself here.

Freedom is dying, slowly but surely. Wake up and look around, they pass bills like this without us even seeing them and we have NO say in it at all. The government does NOT NEED total control of everything to ensure our safety! We do not live in a democracy, folks, and this is not a free country. They create mass hysteria and then they use it to gain more control. After all of the beef recalls they pushed this down our throats and now they are going after everything else. I don't want the government deciding how my food has to be grown and processed they have too much to gain by feeding us pesticides, GMO's, pharmaceuticals and disease causing foods like soy and high fructose corn syrup. I want to be able to grow my own vegetables and raise my own animals and be free to eat food from my own backyard. We don't need the government to test all of our food and make sure that it meets their standards, can't you figure out on your own what is good to eat and what's not? How stupid has america become when we can't even perform functions that animals do with no teaching at all?

Breastfeeding is not obscene, online nurse-in today

If you have a myspace or facebook account today is the day to change your profile pic to a photo of a nursing animal, human or other, and set your status as "Hey, myspace/facebook breastfeeding is not obscene!" This isn't just for nursing mothers it's for anyone who believes that breastfed babies have the right to eat whenever/where ever they need to and that women shouldn't be ostracized for filling the nutritional needs of their infants/children. I know a lot of people say, "Well I'm fine with breastfeeding but why do people need to see it?" and the answer to that question is: The more people see it, the more women will be comfortable in actually nursing their own babies. Many women have never even seen another woman nurse before and when something is shunned and hidden, as breastfeeding is, it makes people feel like it must be wrong. Photos of breastfeeding are being removed from myspace and facebook because they are deemed sexually explicit and lewd, that has the psychological effect of making women think that breastfeeding is a lewd sexual act and therefore something they should not do with their child.

The World Health Organization states: "A recent review of evidence has shown that, on a population basis, exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding infants. Thereafter infants should receive complementary foods with continued breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond." and even our own American Academy of Pediatrics says that: "Exclusive breastfeeding is ideal nutrition and sufficient to support optimal growth and development for approximately the first 6 months after birth." and "Gradual introduction of iron-enriched solid foods in the second half of the first year should complement the breast milk diet. It is recommended that breastfeeding continue for at least 12 months, and thereafter for as long as mutually desired" The Center for Disease Control, as well, is committed to increasing the number of mothers who breastfeed their babies. Yet this data from the National Center for Health Statistics shows that less than half of all infants in the US are breastfed at six months of age:
And the numbers only get worse after six months as is shown here.
A whole world of experts are encouraging breastfeeding but, as you can see from these charts, less than half of the babies in the US are being fed the optimal food for the recommended six months of exclusive nursing and less than 20% are receiving any breastmilk at all by the recommended minimum of one year.

The benefits of breastfeeding and the dangers of formula have been well documented. Health organizations are pushing breastfeeding. Yet mass media mocks it and the public is offended by it. I believe that to see an actual change in the rates of breastfeeding in America it has to be NORMALIZED. That means that we need to see breastfeeding as a normal, typical, thing to do and not be shocked or offended at the sight of it. This means not asking moms to cover up or hide in a bathroom or closet to nurse but to sit in public and proudly nurse our babies for the next generation of women to see; then our daughters will grow up with a view that breastfeeding is normal and they will have no qualms about putting their baby to their own breast and feeding it just as the "experts" recommend.
This isn't just about letting some crazy breastfeeding nazis display photos of themselves nursing their babies, this is about changing the next generation into a generation that welcomes breastfeeding; a generation that feeds their babies the healthiest, most beneficial, food there is.
